<br/><br/> Les états intermédiaires offrent une voie d’élargissement à la théorie analytique. La notion de qualité présente dans Le Projet (1895), et reprise dans l’Abrégé, est considérée par les auteurs comme ayant, à l’instar de la figurabilité de 1900, une valeur organisatrice, d’où la nécessité pour la psychanalyse contemporaine d’une prise en compte de la qualité. En pratique cela suppose que l’analyste travaille non seulement avec les notions de refoulement et de 1re topique, mais également en tenant compte d’une dynamique qualitative transformationnelle.  Intermediate states offer an avenue of inquiry for broadening analytic theory. The concept of quality present in The Project for a Scientific Psychology (1895), and taken up again in An Outline of Psycho-Analysis (1940), is considered by the authors to have, like the concept of figurability in 1900, an organizing value, hence the need for contemporary psychoanalysis to take account of quality. In practice, this implies that the analyst works not only with the concepts of repression and the first topography, but also by taking into account a transformational qualitative dynamic.
