<br/><br/> Sujette à des définitions contrastées, la notion d’imago réclame certaines précisions conceptuelles, afin d’établir sa fonction au cœur de la psyché. C’est le cas notamment pour définir les relations qu’elle entretient avec les représentations internes, comme avec l’identification ou le fantasme. « Objets psychiques » par excellence, les imagos requièrent, pour amender leur dimension archaïque, un caractère apophatique afin de se glisser dans la trame fantasmatique. Un phénomène d’effacement ou d’auto-avalement de l’imago doit donc se concrétiser pour que, là où elle faisait craindre au sujet d’être dévoré, annihilé, phagocyté, l’advenue de ce processus de négativisation de l’imago favorise son propre auto-avalement. À défaut de réussir ce « meurtre », comme on l’observe dans la problématique anorexique, les imagos vont conserver leur pouvoir hypnotique, ce pouvoir étant transposé défensivement par ces mêmes sujets en un phénomène d’emprise sur le corps propre.  The notion of imago, which is subject to contrasting definitions, calls for certain conceptual clarifications in order to establish its function at the heart of this psyche. This is true in particular when defining its relations with internal representations, as with identification or fantasy. As quintessential “psychic objects”, imagos have to acquire an apophatic character so that their archaic dimension can be modified, thereby allowing them to slip into the web of fantasy. A phenomenon of erasure or of auto-engulfment of the imago must therefore take place so that, where the imago once made the subject fear being devoured, annihilated and phagocyted, the advent of this process of negativizing the imago fosters its own auto-engulfment. If this “murder” is not successful, as can be observed in anorexia, the imagos will retain their hypnotic power, and this power is transposed defensively by the same subjects into a phenomenon of mastery over their own body.  Propensa a definiciones contrastadas, la noción de imago demanda algunas precisiones conceptuales, para poder establecer su función en el seno de la psique. Específicamente acontece al definir las relaciones que mantiene con las representaciones internas y con la identificación o la fantasía. “Objetos psíquicos” por excelencia, los imagos requieren, para modificar su dimensión arcaica, un carácter apofático para introducirse en la trama fantasmática. Un fenómeno de borramiento o de auto-devoramiento del imago debe pues concretarse a fin de que, ahí donde él ocasionaba miedo al sujeto de ser devorado, aniquilado, fagocitado, la presencia del proceso de negativización del imago favorezca su auto-devoramiento. A falta de lograr el “asesinato”, como se observa en la problemática anoréxica, los imagos van a conservar su poder hipnótico, estando el poder transpuesto defensivamente por los mismos sujetos en un fenómeno de dominio del cuerpo.
