Teaching the Holocaust in American schools – the originsTeaching the Holocaust in the United States started at a very early stage. The subject was often taught by non-Jewish teachers in places where no specific Jewish settlement existed. In other words, at the very beginning, teaching the Holocaust did not respond to community reasons or demands, but rather to moral ones. Very quickly the subject was extracted from its historical context to become an object of moral and behavioural thinking.
