Or parmi les grandes questions théologiques qui ont travaillé Péguy, celle du salut tant individuel que collectif – les deux étant inséparables – est centrale. Sa théologie de l’espérance (cf. Le Porche du mystère) est en effet tendue vers un unique point de fuite, le Porche étant « ouvert sur l’espérance où la seule espérance considérée, où la seule espérance pour ainsi dire espérée est naturellement l’espérance du salut ». Dans Ève, l’histoire de la chute, de la première Alliance, de l’Incarnation du Verbe, de la résurrection des corps, parcourt les vers comme en un entrelacement de la nature et de la grâce pour aboutir à une frise de toute l’histoire du salut; Balthasar claimed that Eve was “the recapitulation of Augustine, of Anselm, of Luther, of Pascal”. Among the main theological questions that Péguy worked on, that of both individual and collective salvation – the two being inseparable – is central. His theology of hope (cf. Le Porche du mystère) is in fact stretched towards a single vanishing point, the Porche being “open to hope where the only hope considered, where the only hope so to speak hoped for is naturally the hope of salvation”. In Eve, the story of the fall, of the first Covenant, of the Incarnation of the Word, runs through the verses like an intertwining of nature and grace to end in a frieze of the history of salvation, up to the resurrection of the body
