<br/><br/> Décédée voilà plus de quarante ans, à l’age de soixante ans, Madeleine Delbrêl a, de son vivant, été connue par un positionnement original d’une catholique convaincue face aux communistes dans la commune d’Ivry, en banlieue parisienne. Après sa mort, on découvre et apprécie les écrits spirituels d’une femme marquée par une conversion précoce ; à l’occasion de la publication de ses œuvres complètes, on redécouvre son activité professionnelle d’assistante sociale. Cet article introductif décrit quelle a été la jeunesse de Madeleine Delbrêl. Il rappelle la trajectoire suivie par une jeune fille brillante, tentée par une carrière littéraire qu’elle abandonne pour mener une activité professionnelle en plein essor. Il insiste particulièrement sur le rôle joué par le scoutisme qui a mobilisé progressivement ses énergies et a orienté ses choix décisifs.  The early years of a social worker : from poetry to scoutingMadeleine Delbrêl died forty years ago at the age of sixty. In her lifetime, she was known for taking an unconventional stance as a firm catholic in the face of the communists of the commune of Ivry, a Parisian suburb. After her death, her spiritual writings were discovered and appreciated as those of a young convert to Catholicism. With the publication of her complete works, her professional activity as a social worker is being rediscovered. This introductory article describes the youth of Madeleine Delbrêl. It recalls the path followed by a brilliant young girl, tempted at first by a literary career but which she abandons in order to lead a fast-expanding professional job. It gives particular emphasis to the role played by the scouting movement, which gradually took up much of her energies and guided her significant choices in life.
