RésuméPar une approche socio-anthropologique, nous analysons les mécanismes expliquant les comportements violents de footballeurs amateurs en milieu populaire. Partant du constat que la violence, omniprésente dans une équipe, était inexistante dans l’autre, nous insistons sur l’importance des formes de reconnaissance mises en place dans les clubs. En affirmant une identité algérienne valorisante, la première équipe permet la construction d’un groupe dans lequel la violence est régulée. A contrario, les joueurs de Royon rejettent l’autorité et les règles parce que leur faible niveau sportif ne leur permet pas d’obtenir le statut de « bon joueur » qu’ils revendiquent et que les logiques sociales mises en œuvre dans le club leur rappellent leur relégation sociale.

Violence and lack of recognition in lower-class football teams: between sport logics and social logics?Based on a socio-anthropological method, we analyze the mechanisms that lead to violent behaviors among lower-class football teams. Noting that the violence that permeates one team was absent in the other, we stress the importance of the forms of recognition that are implemented in both clubs. One the one hand, by affirming an Algerian identity that is seen as rewarding by the players, the first team allows the construction of a group in which the violence is regulated. On the other hand, some players of Royon reject authority and rules because their low football level does not allow them to get the status of “good player” and because they claim that the social logics implemented in their club remind them of their social relegation.
