The Old Babylonian Glossary of the ARCHIBAB Text Corpus: Results and Prospects
Type de matériel :
TexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2025.
Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : The ARCHIBAB database (www.archibab.fr) now contains over the half of published Old Babylonian archival documents, which amounts to almost 16,000 cuneiform tablets in lemmatized transliteration, or c. 600,000 word tokens. Search tools of the database provide instant access to all mentions of a given word, via a glossary consisting of almost 5,000 lexemes, dozens of which are absent from the standard, partly obsolete Akkadian dictionaries. Our overview presents interim results of the lemmatization and describes, in the light of Akkadian and typological linguistics, the issues encountered in the process, which mostly revolve around defining the lexeme. In addition, it evaluates the Old Babylonian vocabulary from the viewpoint of Akkadian dialectology. The paper concludes with a description of the forthcoming new version of ARCHIBAB website, which will, inter alia, offer new possibilities for search by words.
