La construction de la maison médicale de Bavay, dans les années 70, a été l’occasion de la découverte exceptionnelle de trois fragments de statuaire antique en marbre. D’une qualité remarquable, ces marbres font l’objet d’une étude stylistique et physique pour tenter d’en déterminer la nature, la provenance et la chronologie. Il s’agit de deux torses de satyres, copiés d’après le groupe hellénistique de l’« Invitation à la danse », et de la plinthe d’une Aphrodite accroupie. Le rapprochement original de ces deux modèles statuaires permet de jeter un éclairage sur la fonction des ensembles concertés à l’époque romaine.

The construction of the Bavay medical dispensary, in the 70s, led to the exceptional discovery of three fragments of Antique marble statues. Noteworthy for their outstanding quality, these marble elements are submitted to a stylistic and physical analysis with the purpose of determining their nature, their origins and their chronology. They are two trunks of satyrs, copied from the Hellenistic group known as « Invitation to dance », and the plinth of a crouching Aphrodite. The unusual vicinity of these two models of statuary sheds a light on the function of arranged sets in Roman times.
