Cet article analyse les deux conceptions de l’évolution littéraire qui ont émergé des rencontres ayant suivi la conférence donnée en décembre 1928 par Tynjanov devant le Cercle linguistique de Prague. Tynjanov est alors engagé dans une reformulation de la méthode formelle. Pour atteindre cet objectif, il commence à employer la notion de fonction, son attention passant ainsi de l’ expression au sens. La fonction, dans l’usage qu’il en fait, est une notion logique. Il rejette l’autre sens du terme, celui d’une relation de but ou de visée intentionnellement réalisée par un élément du système. L’intention est, en effet, pour les formalistes russes, un concept qui réintroduit dangereusement la conscience subjective. L’école de Prague cherche, elle, à reformuler l’étude de l’histoire littéraire en prenant en compte la nature esthétique de l’œuvre littéraire. La fonction (qui affecte la compréhension d’une œuvre comme un type spécifique de communication) ainsi que la conception d’ensemble de l’histoire littéraire doivent être toutes deux redéfinies.

This article analyzes the two conceptions of literary evolution that emerged from the meetings subsequent to the lecture given by Tynjanov before the Prague Linguistic Circle in December 1928. At the time, he was engaged in reformulating the formal method. To do this, he began to use the notion of function, his attention thus passing from expression to sense. Function, in Tynjanov’s usage, is a logical notion. It rejects the other meaning of the term, that of a relation of goal or of an aim intentionally realized by an element of the system. In effect, for the Russian formalists intention is a concept that dangerously reintroduces subjective consciousness. As for the Prague School, it sought to reformulate the study of literary history by taking account of the esthetic nature of the literary work. From this it results not only that the notion of function which affects the understanding of a work as a specific type of communication as well as the overall conception of literary history must be redefined.

Este artículo analiza las dos concepciones de la evolución literaria que emergieron durante los encuentros que siguieron la conferencia dada por Tynjanov en diciembre 1928 ante el Círculo lingüístico de Praga. Por aquel entonces, Tynjanov estaba emprendiendo una reformulación del método formal. Para ello, empezó a utilizar la noción de función, trasladando su foco de atención de la expresión hacia el significado. La función, en su concepción, es una noción lógica. Rechaza el otro significado del término, el de una relación de objetivo o de finalidad intencionadamente realizada por un elemento del sistema. En efecto, la intención es, para los formalistas rusos, un concepto que reintroduce peligrosamente la consciencia subjetiva. La escuela de Praga, en cambio, busca reformular el estudio de la historia literaria tomando en cuenta la naturaleza estética de la obra literaria. La función (que afecta la comprensión de una obra como tipo específico de comunicación), así como la concepción global de la historia literaria merecen ser redefinidas.
