Background. Sterilization plays a crucial role in family planning, with significant variation in the adoption of methods across cultures and time periods. Objective. The objective of this study was to analyze trends in vasectomies and tubal ligations performed in France between 2016 and 2022, in order to assess changes in sterilization practices. Materials and methods. The data were retrospectively and anonymously collected from the French national PMSI-MCO database, which covers all public and private health care facilities in France. This study focused on vasectomy and tubal ligation procedures performed between 2016 and 2022, with particular attention given to annual variations in the number of patients treated and procedures performed. Results. The number of vasectomies performed increased exponentially, whereas the number of tubal ligations showed a steady decline. Conclusion. These findings indicate a significant shift in sterilization preferences, with potential implications for public health policy and clinical practice in France.
