L’évolution des Etablissements Médico-Sociaux (EMS) à Genève a conduit à une structuration de la réflexion sur l’animation et à une organisation des professionnels (à travers, en particulier, une association: l’AGASPA). La conception de «l’animation relationnelle et de proximité» prend alors une place prépondérante. Cependant, l’analyse des projets d’animation articulés sur cette conception a mis en évidence les freins à une réelle individualisation des pratiques. Il serait nécessaire de mettre en œuvre de nouveaux moyens afin que l’animation joue pleinement son rôle dans une politique d’amélioration de la qualité de vie en établissement.

EVOLVING “ANIMATION” PRACTICES IN GENEVA The way in which institutions for elderly people have evolved in Geneva (EMS) has led to a structuring of reflection on “animation” and to the organising of professional people into a particular association AGASPA. The concept of “relational and face to face animation” then assumes a major role. However, the analysis of projects based on this concept shows up the limitations of such individualistic practices. New measures should be set up so that "animation" may play its role to the full, with a view to improving the quality of life in institutions.
