Actuellement, dans le domaine des soins infirmiers, on constate que le développement et la clarification de la base des connaissances suscitent un grand intérêt. Pour traiter une partie de ce sujet, on a souvent concentré son attention sur les concepts et les méthodes de clarification. Bien que la méthode d’analyse de concepts ait été fréquemment employée pour apporter une clarté conceptuelle, les fondements et les conséquences de la conduite de l’analyse d’un concept n’ont pas été bien explorés dans le domaine des soins infirmiers. Dans cet article, on examinera les fondements philosophiques de l’approche d’analyse des concepts que Walker & Avant (1983) ont contribué à faire connaître. On apportera des modifications à cette méthode et on proposera un cadre destiné à interpréter les résultats d’une analyse. On obtiendra donc une théorie des concepts et une approche d’analyse qui pourront s’avérer utiles à la clarification d’une variété de concepts liés aux soins infirmiers.

Nursing currently evidences concern with the development and clarification of its knowledge base. As a part of this focus, attention has often been directed towards concepts and methods of clarification. Although the method of concept analysis has been employed often to provide conceptual clarity, the foundations and implications of conducting an analysis of a concept have not been well explored in nursing. In this article, the philosophical foundations of the approach to concept analysis popularized by Walker & Avant (1983) are examined. Modifications of this method are offered, along with a framework for interpreting the findings of an analysis. The result is a view of concepts and an approach to analysis that may be of use in the clarification of a variety of concepts of interest in nursing.
