Peu après, la démocratie a montré sa propension à basculer vers le totalitarisme du fait de l’effroi où elle place le sujet, privé de certitudes et de repères tangibles. À la haine de la différence des totalitarismes succèdent la mondialisation, la surabondance et la confusion des normes dans les domaines du juridique, du sociétal et de la pensée. La dissidence et même le refuge du conformisme se dérobent devant l’inintelligibilité du monde. L’histoire de Julie témoigne des répercussions de cet état de choses sur le plan individuel.

In the 1920s, the meeting between Freud and the democrat lawyer Kelsen highlighted the clash between the constraint that surrounds the individual and the disorder of constraint within him. Shortly afterwards, democracy showed its tendency to fall into totalitarianism by the fear it induces in the individual, deprived of certainties and tangible points of reference. The period of hatred of all that is different – typical for totalitarism – is followed by globalization, overabundance and confusion of norms in the fields of law, society and thought. Dissent and even a defensive conformism are without effect when confronted with the unintelligibility of the world. Julie’s story illustrates this state of affairs at the individual level.
