She also explains why, in 1994, although working as a local station journalist, she had not had any knowledge of the Rwandan genocide, since she had neither the force nor the will to look at what happened. Bravely and with intellectual honesty, the author underwent a sea-change that culminated in a series of 25 outstanding broadcasts, produced in the summer of 2003, in Brussels, by France Culture, covering trials of four people accused of genocide in Rwanda. Finally, the author arrives and brings us to the conclusion that such understanding is not common knowledge, and that on condition that one has the necessary empathy, one is allowed to truly understand and to make such knowledge one's own. In the abyss of questions posed by a genocide, fragmentary answers and responses undescore the true fragility of human behavior.
