Par cette forme qui privilégie l’expression du contre-transfert, l’auteur nous fait sentir la dimension mélancolique de tout compterendu d’analyse. L’accent est mis sur le rôle qu’a pu jouer la présence de corps sculptés dans le bureau de l’analyste pour ce patient qui avait servi de modèle pour un père photographe au regard incestueux, notamment comme soutien d’une psychisation du trouble psychosomatique dont souffrait ce patient. Enfin, le texte montre que la confrontation avec l’œuvre de Giacometti et la statuaire inuit relance chez le patient et l’analyste l’identification à l’espèce humaine.

The Model Child In this interior monologue, a psychoanalyst addresses a patient whose analysis took place some years earlier. Through the accent laid on counter-transference by the use of this narrative form, the author conveys to us the melancholy prevalent in any account of an analysis. He highlights the role played by the presence of sculpted human bodies in the analyst’s consulting room and their importance for the patient in question. The analysand had served as a model for a photographer father, submitted to his incestuous gaze, and the figures provided a support in the symbolisation of a psychosomatic disorder the patient was complaining of. The text then goes on to discuss how encountering the works of Giacometti and the Inuit statuary provided a basis for both the patient and the analyst for renewed identification with the human species.
