Lorsqu’éclate la guerre d’Espagne, trois frères phalangistes de Puerto Santa Maria (Cadix) alors incarcérés se trouvent propulsés parmi les nouveaux détenteurs de l’autorité locale. À travers la relecture d’un corpus documentaire et archivistique exhumé par un historien local, cet article entend analyser leur trajectoire à travers le prisme de la notion de « protagonisme » forgée par l’historien Haim Burstin à propos de la Révolution française. L’itinéraire des frères Zamacola est étudié dans leur rapport aux autorités nouvelles, qui nous permet d’explorer les modalités d’émergence de l’État franquiste et la gestion de ses premiers soutiens.

When the Spanish Civil War broke out, three imprisoned Phalangist brothers from Puerto Santa Maria (Cádiz) found themselves among the local authorities. By revisiting a documentary and archival corpus first unearthed by a local historian, this article seeks to analyze their trajectories in the light of the notion of “protagonism,” coined by historian Haim Burstin when discussing the French Revolution. The history of the Zamacola Brothers is thus studied from the perspective of their relationship with the new authorities, which allows us to explore the conditions undergirding the emergence of the Francoist state and how it was managed by its early supporters.
