L’analyse détaillée de la rhétorique de deux discours, prononcés respectivement en 1985 et 1988 par le Président du Bundestag et le président de la République fédérale d’Allemagne, permet de mettre en évidence, d’une part, le destin des mots expulsés de la langue lorsque revient la mémoire et que l’histoire s’incarne dans la parole, d’autre part, la stratégie psychique permettant d’ouvrir dans l’après-guerre à la « réconciliation » des peuples moyennant un processus de « déréalisation », enfin ce que mobilise dans la psyché collective le débat très conflictuel autour de la distinction entre mémoire et histoire.

A detailed analysis of the arguments used in two speeches delivered by the President of the Bundestag and the President of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1985 and 1988, respectively, reveals on the one hand the fate of words that have been banished from language when memory resurfaces and history is reflected in words, and on the other hand, the psychic strategy that enabled the ‘reconciliation’ of peoples in the post-war period through a process of ‘derealisation’ and, finally, what the highly controversial debate on the distinction between memory and history meant in the collective psyche.
