RésuméCet article a deux objectifs : retracer la biographie surprenante de François Moutier, un des maîtres de l’aphasiologie qui du, sur l’ordre de son patron Pierre Marie, abandonner la neurologie au profit de la gastro-entérologie spécialité où il acquit une renommée mondiale. Le second objectif est d’analyser sa volumineuse thèse sur l’aphasie de Broca qui constitue une œuvre scientifique de tout premier ordre.

François Moutier, a Norman aphasiologist of his time and oursWe wished to recall the Francois Moutier's surprising biography, a master of French aphasiology. After his thesis's defense, Pierre Marie, his master, demanded he forgot neurology and he became a gastro-enterologist. In this new specialty he was a famous innovator. We analysed Moutier's thesis about Broca aphasia, a very important contribution, with many figures, to history of language pathology.
