Inspired by the terminology used in an ethnoclinical mediation system, a trainer encouraged social work students to write about their “pots” or “ marmites” the blend of personal, cultural, and experiential elements that shape their identities. This practitioner’s account, inspired by the students’ contributions, explores what self-writing makes possible in social worker training.
