This paper examines the spectator’s identification with the exceptional dancer and the feeling of weight and anxiety being lifted this induces. A meeting with two great artists, Claude Bessy (former prima ballerina and director of Opera de Paris dance school) and Ludmila Pagliero (prima ballerina), sheds light on what motivates young dancers to have a tough discipline from childhood and to acquire the means of success: the pleasure of movement and the desire for motion that goes beyond the burden of constraints and ideals.
