La parure constitue un travail sur le corps afin de l’embellir, mais ses formes varient dans le temps et l’espace, dans la mesure où elle constitue un marqueur social et culturel. Cet article a pour objectif d’interroger le foyer d’invention mais aussi l’espace de circulation et d’appropriation du bronzage dans le Monde. Alors que l’Occident a inversé le signe négatif attribué au hâle au cours de la première moitié du xxe siècle, en actualisant des normes corporelles associées à l’invention de nouvelles pratiques balnéaires, nous interrogerons dans quelle mesure la société chinoise, qui privilégierait a priori la blancheur de peau comme norme de beauté, met à l’épreuve un « modèle » largement impensé.

The area of bronze : paving the way for analysing the circulation and the appropriation of the tan (from Hawaii to Hainan)Adornment is a work on the body in order to embellish it, but its forms vary in time and space, insofar as it is a social and cultural marker. This article aims to examine the birth place of invention but also the space of circulation and appropriation of tanning in the world. Whereas the West has reversed the negative sign attributed to hale in the first half of the 20th century, by updating personal norms associated with the invention of new bathing practices, we also analyse in which way the Chinese society, which favors the whiteness of skin as a norm of beauty, puts to the test a ‘model’widely unthought.
