Louis Aragon, who is hailed in France for his commitment and patriotism, is also well known internationally. A writer of love and war, Aragon finds in the Arab world, and elsewhere, audiences and even imitators. This article looks closely at his influence and impact on Arabic poetry, and more particularly on al-Sayyab. This poet and translator of Aragon represents the Aragonian filiation in Iraq. However, Aragon’s reception in Mesopotamia, although it is significant and presents him as a mythical protest figure, only persists in the highest points of his career, namely as a surrealist poet of resistance and commitment.
