520			_aL’objectif de cet article est de mettre en lumière l’approche du design science qui connaît aujourd’hui un intérêt grandissant dans de nombreuses revues et conférences européennes et nord-américaines. Peu utilisée à l’heure actuelle dans les travaux francophones, nous avons choisi de mettre en perspective cette approche en approfondissant ses apports mais aussi ses limites. Dans cette perspective, un effort tout particulier portera sur la mise en évidence des fondements et des principales caractéristiques du design science en SI. Nous nous attacherons ensuite à mettre en exergue les controverses qui animent cette approche. Convaincue de l’apport du design science à la discipline SI, nous proposerons dans une discussion des voies de réflexion et des pistes de solution pour veiller à ce que le design science respecte la promesse qu’il s’est fixée, renforcer la création de connaissances théoriques et améliorer les pratiques en SI.
520			_aThe aim of this paper is to highlight the design science approach which is of growing interest in many European and North-American journals and conferences. This approach has received too little attention in the French IS community. In this paper, we have chosen to present it by deepening both its contributions but also its limits. The authors believe that the new emphasis on design could be an insightful way to look at the discipline. As such, we will focus on the identification of the foundations and controversies that animate this field. We will show that the answer given by the recent design science publications is, in some ways, insufficient. We will then investigate solutions in order to ensure that design science fulfills its promise of building theoretical knowledge and improving practices in information systems.
