520 _aIn a residential facility for disabled individuals (maison d’accueil spécialisée, mas), care workers and support workers are closely involved in the private lives of residents, often for a period of many years. Close relationships are formed. The death of a resident is experienced differently depending on the bond they have created together. Deaths raise numerous questions among care workers, and result in changes to their relationship to work, as well as in their private lives. Supporting professionals before, during, and after such events is crucial to enable them to cope better with such deaths.
