These collective actions constitute a privileged object to observe emergent processes of racialisation in traditional working-class neighborhoods, whether they emanate from the public authorities or from minority groups in the neighborhood. Our research shows that local neighborhood configurations and negotiation frameworks with public authorities make a difference in community relations. If the security mobilisations of the Chinese populations seem to contribute initially to reinforcing the ethnoracial frontiers between different groups of inhabitants, and to constructing a “racial-security” public problem, the negotiations with the public authorities and the interactions with other associative actors show the potential for transformation and expansion of struggles rooted in the neighborhoods and the recomposition of ethno-racial frontiers.
