À Grenoble, la présence sous l’Ancien Régime d’une noblesse aussi puissante que nombreuse et de groupes bourgeois dynamiques permet d’approcher la question de leur éventuelle fusion après 1789. Menée à partir des contrats de mariage, l’analyse décrit une évolution en deux temps des stratégies matrimoniales des élites. Sous la Révolution et l’Empire, les mariages mixtes sont inexistants. La fragile tendance de la noblesse de robe à se porter sur des choix matrimoniaux plus ouverts après 1780 ne se confirme pas et les pratiques endogames de la bourgeoisie ne connaissent pas de solution de continuité. Au-delà de 1820 cependant, la noblesse élargit son champ d’alliances, mais la forte endogamie qui marque la haute société ne disparaît vraiment qu’au lendemain de la révolution de Juillet.
520			_aA study of the extent and the characteristics of alliances among the elites in the French Revolutionary and Post-Revolutionary periods is a neglected subject in the historiography. In Grenoble, under the Old Regime, the existence of a large and powerful nobility and of dynamic bourgeois groups makes it possible to examine the possibility of a fusion of these groups after 1789. Using mariage contracts, this study describes the evolution in two stages of the matrimonial stategies of these elites. Under the Revolution and the Empire, mixed marriages are non-existant. The slight tendency of the noblesse de robe to widen the range of their mariage partners after 1780 does not last long, and the endogamous practices of the bourgeoisie persisted. After 1820, however, the nobility enlarged its alliances, though the strong endogamy that characterized high society did not disappear until after the July Revolution.
