520			_aRésuméL’objet de cet article est de saisir la dimension historique de l’économie institutionnelle élaborée par John R. Commons. Une contextualisation de sa réflexion, qui se veut résolument pluridisciplinaire, dans le champ des sciences sociales américaines à son époque - marqué principalement par l’influence du courant pragmatiste et de l’école historique allemande - permet d’en montrer les fondements méthodologiques et épistémologiques. L’évolution même de sa démarche, de ses premiers travaux sur la genèse du mouvement ouvrier jusqu’à sa périodisation conceptualisée du capitalisme, en passant par sa relecture généalogique de l’économie politique, rend compte de l’attention particulière qu’il porte aux mutations des phénomènes institutionnels dans l’histoire.
520			_aAccording to some of John R. Commons’ major works, the aim of this article is to understand the historical dimension of his institutional economics. The context of the social sciences at his time in United States, mostly with the influence of the Pragmatism and the German historical School of Economics, allows to investigate the methodologic and epistemologic bases of his reflexion. All along the evolution of his own theory, one could also pay attention to the place of the historical change, since his first researches about the formation of the labor movement to a periodisation of Capitalism throughout a genealogical analysis of Political Economy.
