520 _aNamed and defined by feminists, sexual harassment became a criminal offence in 1992 in France thanks to feminist activism. Nevertheless, the legal and then jurisprudential definition of this offence was then significantly altered and differed from the definition promoted by activists who mobilized for the legislation. Feminists did not disarm in front of the resistances that refused to recognize sexual harassment, and their tenacity eventually paid off: the law of 6 August 2012 on the whole took into account their criticisms and demands. However, vigilance will be required as to how it is applied.
