520			_aHow can contemporary ethnology inherit Pierre Clastres’ idea of “society against the State”? Guided by this question, we set out to analyse the oscillation of political forms in the South American lowlands, which runs counter to the ideal of undifferentiated societies free of asymmetrical relations. We compare this analysis with reflections on other parts of the world, where the model of “seasonal variation” is highlighted, opening up the possibility of thinking about reversals and “creative involutions”. We conclude the essay by suggesting that it is possible to bring these analyses and reflections closer to the Clastrian proposal, in its fierce critique of the Hegelian philosophy of history and in its commitment to establishing an effective dialogue between Western and Amerindian political philosophies. We need to go beyond the static version of the “counter-state” and combine it with the movement of oscillations and reversibilities.

Guidés par cette question, nous nous sommes consacrés à l’analyse de l’oscillation des formes politiques dans les basses-terres sud-américaines, qui s’oppose à l’idéal de sociétés indifférenciées et exemptes de relations asymétriques. Nous confrontons cette analyse à des réflexions sur d’autres parties du monde, où le modèle de la « variation saisonnière » est mis en évidence, ouvrant la possibilité de penser des renversements et des « involutions créatrices ». Nous concluons l’essai en suggérant qu’il est possible de rapprocher ces analyses et réflexions de la proposition clastrienne, dans sa critique féroce de la philosophie hégélienne de l’histoire et dans son engagement à établir un dialogue effectif entre les philosophies politiques occidentales et amérindiennes. Il faudrait dépasser la version statique du « contre-État » pour l’associer au mouvement des oscillations et des réversibilités.
