It seeks to distinguish it from the notion of the void, discussed in the context of the debate on neuroses and explores the various subjective modalities that enable the psyche to organize itself around the hole left by the trauma. The discussion is based on two clinical case histories in which the therapeutic intervention is addressed from the particular angle of case construction. The conclusion discusses the question of the institutional, structural and dynamic limitations of clinical work.
