There is a double impact on the body, both in the way that it is affected and in the role that has been assigned to it in expressing the suffering that the teenager is going through. Self-harming behaviour falls within the scope of a masochistic affectation to bodily limits which in turn acts as an intrapsychic linking activity to what then becomes of the affects.
