Drawing principally on examples from literature, theatre, and art, problematology provides a uniquely encompassing view of the evolution of questioning in cultural production. This article explores how, in critical dialogue with Kant and Bourdieu, Meyer uses the concept of problematological difference, that is, the difference between questions and answers, to explore tensions between the autonomy of the work of art and socio-historical influences. Meyer’s reading of Cervantes’s Don Quixote exemplifies how literature both conceals and critiques ideology through the question-raising figurativity of its language.
