| 520 | _aThe aim of this article is to develop an epistemological critique of the events that, since Donald Trump took office for a second time in January 2025, have sought to destabilize the world of academic research. I put forward the notion of epistemic shock—since the Trump administration is working hard to undermine the foundations on which trust in science historically rests, namely academic freedom and diversity. I must emphasize that the consequences of what is currently happening in the United States extend well beyond physical and disciplinary boundaries. I am calling for action. A great number of interventions, both large and small, will be needed to defend the foundations on which the credibility and legitimacy of contemporary science have been built, the science in which we are all directly involved. | ||
