520 _aThis paper presents the sociolinguistic situation in Morocco, highlighting the traditional coexistence of two languages, dialectal Arabic and classical Arabic, with the concept of diglossia. However, I suggest that this view should be nuanced, as these languages no longer perform the communicative functions defined by canonical diglossia, displaying mixtures, alternations, and imbrications in the documents analyzed. To this end, I explore the surprising cohabitation of dialectal Arabic and Amazigh in historical documents from the Almohad period, suggesting that this coexistence facilitates understanding for users due to their genetic relationships, structural proximity, and sociolinguistic and pragmatic modes of cohabitation linked to the framework of interactions.
