520 _a‪This paper aims at a first review of a newly developed method to radiocarbon date pottery vessels from their absorbed food residues. The method is centred on the compound-specific radiocarbon analysis of single fatty acids of animal fats origins. With this method one can (i) date archaeological sites in the absence of other conventional materials, (ii) date the period of use of pottery vessels, (iii) directly date specific food products exploitation and introduction into human diet and (iv) refine relative typochronologies. This article reviews the method developments and the first case studies made using this method.‪
