520 _aOriginally created by regulation, as a provisional solution for housing a poor population unable to remain in their home neighbourhood, the Duwiqa neighbourhood has become a stable residential and social reality. Thanks to an intensive social and integrated existence, the inhabitants have now well established roots in the local community. This neighbourhood is in fact a major centre for socialisation and adaptation to life. However, far from reflecting a closed society, this appropriation of new territory in the local area develops thanks to daily journeys to other areas of the city. Exploring the links between their attachment to their residential area and their “routes” to other city locations demonstrates a dual dimension of the urban experience for the inhabitants of the Duwiqa neighbourhood.
