520 _aThis article examines why multiple leftist political forces and organizations all over the world were politically involved in the Spanish civil war (1936 – 1939). By analyzing various examples of art pieces and illustrations published in a number of socialist, communist and anarchist publications in Europe and Latin America, we seek to understand why the Spanish Republican camp has been an issue, a model and an ideal for these parties since the outset of the war.
