520 _aThis article describes the development of a child with Autism up to the age of 19 years. Home movies shot by the child’s family were used to describe early signs of psychological suffering manifest during the first 30 months of life. She began psychotherapy at the age of 4 years and 9 months. Videos are used to describe her interactions during therapy sessions and her integration into society and at school. The therapist discovered that Maria possessed graphical skills and spatial intelligence, enabling her to employ graphical means of communication, which was a source of immense pleasure for Maria. This interaction provided a basis for therapy and Maria progressed, despite the absence of verbal communication. Maria’s drawings, paintings, and sculptures, examples of which are shown in the article, enabled her to communicate and contributed to her learning to speak at the age of 10. Maria’s images reveal her psychological development, to the extent that she passed her entrance exams at the age of 19 and is now at university.
