520 _aThe article concerns the cultural transfers which influenced the revival of preaching in Muscovy in the middle of the seventeenth century. Unlike current research, which underscores the influence of Ukrainian and Belarusian clergymen, the author seeks to demonstrate that this influence was hampered by patriarch Filaret’s campaigns against ecclesiastical books printed in Poland-Lithuania and that there were other sources of influence. While the opinions of the Orthodox from Poland-Lithuania were often contested in Muscovy, the authority of the Greek clergy seemed unwavering. This allowed certain Greek clergymen, who could overcome the language barrier and pronounced their sermons in Russian, to have a certain influence on the Muscovite public.
