520 _aWith large-scale, enforced digitization having resulted in the demise of the projectionist as a profession, the techniques of cinema and its editorial model are not only moving closer to those of television and streaming services, but digital projection is now becoming increasingly similar to the domestic use of digitized media. Across a broad digital continuum, movies and other miscellaneous content with various origins can be shown on a movie projector or a tablet. In this context, what remains special about cinema? The author demonstrates and discusses the various differences in terms of image quality and the consequences of movie theater digitization, with a focus on the cultural issues at stake.
