520 _aThe concept of uncertainty is polysemous and complex and lies at the crossroads of different disciplinary fields. It is also transformed by cultures and eras, as evidenced by the history of thought and science. The relationship between certainty and uncertainty is at the core of our contemporary societies, which are faced with a paradoxical disparity between our increasing ability to know and anticipate, and a context increasingly marked by precariousness. Uncertainty emerges as an inherent component of our capacity for knowledge and which defines our individual and collective existences, hence the attempts to master it in the different domains of action and knowledge. It is therefore worth raising the question of the relationship between uncertainty and prudence, a virtue that helps us navigate a contingent world dominated by chance, according to Aristotle. Indeed, uncertainty can represent not only a limit or an obstacle, but also a resource, a place where human freedom and creativity can thrive.
