520 _aWithout claiming to exhaustively address the question of collaboration between the Catholic Church and the state in matters of justice—particularly criminal justice—the author offers several reflections on the topic. While making it clear, as the title of this contribution indicates, that, in concrete terms, the issue is more about the assistance provided by the Church to the civil justice system than about genuine collaboration between equal partners, the author develops two main points. The first concerns the current wording of ecclesiastical texts, which suppot a form of collaboration focused primarily on reporting offenses and handing over documents useful to the state justice system in the pursuit of truth. The second focuses on the quality of evidence, which, when confronted to the legal principles of each forum, may hinder the fair use of certain procedural elements in the other.
