520			_aThe paradox of three years of Russian invasion of Ukraine is that, rather than the war itself, it’s the surrounding world that seems to have changed. While the front line has virtually ground to a halt, the political framework in Europe and especially North America has shifted much further to the right. Above all, it is the ideological contours within which the conflict is perceived by the populations closest to it that have changed. The countless elections in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, as well as the street demonstrations that are sweeping across societies, show us an ambiguous situation: the Kremlin’s hegemonic projection is now nourished by the continuation of the fighting and by the apparent inaction of Western governments. The more time passes, the more the contradictions that accumulated during the unfinished transition of post-Soviet countries reappear.
