520 _aThis group was designed to welcome young children and their parents, primarily from immigrant backgrounds, into a defined and limited space and time to facilitate their progression toward a therapeutic alliance. The setup provided a supportive framework: lateral transfers allowed the group to work on the projections placed upon the children, collectively helping parents to see their children differently, invest in a therapeutic space, and reduce the divide between the two cultural frames of reference regarding their children’s difficulties. It served as a moment of encounter between the inside and the outside, the self and others – a place where cultures and notions of parenthood, childhood, and the child within each person meet. The group’s support allowed parents to observe and imagine their child differently and to heal their own pain. It gave them time to engage in care and establish a therapeutic bond.
