| 520 | _aTo posit that religion is a root cause of war and conflict is too simplistic. Religion is obviously not the only factor behind the emergence or continuation of conflict. Developed around doctrines, sociological elements, and historical contexts, religions federate communities, mobilize crowds, and legitimize actions. They do not, however, replace the invariants of human nature and the political organizations that structure societies. As a driving force behind antagonism, religion will continue, however, to play a fundamental role in our understanding of certain direct confrontations and in addressing the associated security challenges. | ||
