520 _aDrawing on a virtual ethnography of the charity Z Event on the Twitch live-streaming platform, this article examines the workings of festive experiences in a digital context and their sociological implications. It analyses the modes of interaction and representation that form the basis of the streamed party in the absence of actual physical interaction. By creating collective emotions online, and through the carnivallike inversion of digital identities that it brings about, the festive effervescence of the young streamers brought together by the Z Event assumes a subversive character that contrasts with standard social interactions online.
