520 _aPlans to build agricultural methanization units (AMUs) are sparking controversy in local communities. By comparing two protests against AMU projects in the same region, this article analyzes the conditions that enable the cause championed by protesters to gain traction in the regional political arena. By examining how the cause was constructed and appropriated by partisan actors, the article highlights the role of protests in bringing the issue of the “right” agricultural methanization model to the forefront of local political discourse.
