520			_aRésuméConfrontée à des arbitrages frontaliers attestés par les sources épigraphiques, l’étude des traités des arpenteurs et des miniatures qui les accompagnent dans les manuscrits tardo-antiques et médiévaux permet de s’interroger sur la perception, la représentation et l’utilisation des éléments remarquables du paysage et des zones marginales des territoires. Un mode de pensée stéréotypé et modélisateur fondé sur la préférence en des repères naturels globaux et linéaires est à concilier sur le terrain avec des exigences de précision topographique qui induisent le recours aux repères ponctuels, souvent anthropiques, qui se surajoutent aux premiers.
520			_aIn conjunction with the frontier arbitrations attested by the epigraphic sources, the study of the treatises of the land-surveyors from the Lower Antiquity and the Middle-Ages and of the miniatures such manuscripts contain enables us to research the perception, representation and use of the notable elements of the landscape and of the outlying territorial areas of the time. A stereotyped way of thinking favoring global and linear natural markers had to be reconciled on the ground with the requirements of topographic precision, which induced the recourse to specific points of reference, often of anthropic origin, added on top of the aforementioned more traditional markers.
