Il porte une attention particulière à l’état de la recherche concernant le xviie siècle, qui vit la création des premiers dispositifs de ghettoïsation à Sorano (1619), Pitigliano (1622) et Lippiano (après 1630), suivis par Santa Fiora en 1714 et l’apparition d’autres formes de restriction spatiale comme dans le cas du « bourg de la synagogue » de Monte San Savino (1707). L’étude se penche sur l’articulation entre le « fait juif » et le contexte de frontière pour proposer quelques réflexions sur la configuration sociale des minorités juives ayant expérimenté à la fois la marginalisation politique et la ségrégation sociale dans leurs lieux de résidence.

From “safe havens” to ghettos on the outskirts of the modern state (1555-1750) This article examines the history of Jewish presence on the border between the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and the Papal States from 1555 to 1750. It pays particular attention to the state of research concerning the seventeenth century, a century that saw the establishment of the first ghettos in Sorano (1619), Pitigliano (1622), and Lippiano (after 1630), followed by Santa Fiora in 1714 and the appearance of other forms of spatial restriction as in the case of the “district of the synagogue” in Monte San Savino (1707). The study explores the link between the “Jewish fact” and the border context to offer some reflections on the social configuration of Jewish minorities that experienced both political marginalization and social segregation in their places of residence.
