520			_aDix ans après le Synode africain de 1994, le pape Jean-Paul II avait annoncé un nouveau synode pour les Églises d’Afrique. Benoît XVI vient de réitérer le même appel : il souhaite un rassemblement synodal des évêques d’Afrique. Quelle est l’actualité théologique et pastorale du Synode africain de 1994, dix ans après sa tenue ? Quelles sont les questions pertinentes hypothéquant l’avenir des Églises africaines, soulevées par les évêques africains et que Rome semble déconsidérer ? Quels sont les défis lancés aux Églises africaines ? Celles-ci ont-elles encore besoin d’un rassemblement synodal ou d’un autre rassemblement plus important, « œcuménique », « universel », et pourquoi pas conciliaire ?
520			_aTen years after the African Synod (1994), John Paul II had announced a new Synod for the African Churches. The project has now been approved by Benedict XVI. The A. considers the theological and pastoral relevance of the first Synod ; he pinpoints the questions which, in his view, are most important for the future of the African Churches, questions which have been repeatedly raised by the African bishops and which Rome has perhaps not yet sufficiently attended to. What are the challenges faced by the African Churches ? Are those Churches still in need of a Synod ? Would not a more important gathering be called for ? Could it not be an ecumenical, universal, and — why not — conciliar assembly ?
